The original version of Technobee was written in the early spring of 1996. It was composed on Sidewinder’s Ensoniq SQ-2, even sporting a couple of custom-made sounds that Eric had programmed himself. As was the case with most of the songs he had written on the synth, Technobee was sampled to his Commodore Amiga and completed in Protracker as a MOD version.
Technobee was made to be an earworm, and really was a forerunner to viral EDM songs in pop-culture, like the infamous Axel F and The Gummy Bear Song. Of course, it didn’t reach much further than most of his other MODs, making its home on the web servers of Aminet. But it did catch some fame among a few kids in a Texas class room, when Eric played back the song on cassette for his ex-wife’s class. :-)
While we only sought to revive the instrumental, as it was written on the SQ-2, Eric had also recorded some vocals to spice up his bee song, which you can still hear in the original MOD version. Just hit that download button below if you’re curious:
